Fans sound off about Saturday night melee in East Lansing
"Is our state turning into a "police state"? Is this Russia? Iraq?
Yes, Susan Wellington of Oxford, Michigan. Getting tear gassed on the streets of East Lansing is very much like living in Baghdad.
"I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution [ed. - um, okay ... ] and one of my dearest relatives is a lieutenant in the Army getting ready to deploy to Iraq. Our ancestors and our children have not fought nor will they be fighting for peace around the world and watch our children in Michigan attacked for watching a basketball game in East Lansing will they?"
For godsakes, won't some think of the children??

I found your website while doing a search...and I take issue at your sarcastic comments regarding over a hundred police officers shooting tear gas bombs and pepper spray directly at law abiding E. Lansing students. Because you were in law enforcement I suspect this is why this doesn't bother you.
But you don't take issue with someone who would compare pepper spray on the streets of East Lansing to what is (arguably) the most dangerous war zone on Earth? Where real innocent people are murdered everyday? Or an actual police state like Russia where journalists and dissidents are assassinated by government officials who feel no reprisals? That you're cool with?
It doesn't bother me because I'm from East Lansing (I was living there at the time I wrote this) and I know all about the precious "law abiding" students and their peaceful innocent ways. It's a crock of shit.
