Hot Fuzz

I am not really a fan of horror movies, and I'm even less a fan of horror-comedy movies, so I was not at all intrigued by Shaun of the Dead when it was released. But I eventually did it see and was tremendously surprised by how awesome it was. It's one of the funniest movies to come out this decade, and Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are a genuine comedy team. Alone, I doubt that either one of them is that great, but together they're amazing, and it was their bantering that carried the film.

So I'm genuinely excited for Hot Fuzz, but I'm also now planning on being disappointed. When a movie with no expectations ends up delighting me, that inflates expectations for any "sequel," which means that if both movies are of equal quality, the second one can't help but let you down. Plus, the second one is almost always of lesser quality anyway (it just is), making the disappointment even more profound.

In other words, this trailer is hilarious, but I'm going to pretend I hate it so that I don't get my hopes up only to have them inevitably crushed under the weight of history. I'm sure you'll understand.

Rating: One star. Come on, reverse psychology!
