Pour Some Sugar On This Post

You know what the best part about having friends is?

When they do something completely nice for no other reason than because it's a nice to thing to do.

Like when someone carries a bottle of Vegemite halfway around the world, and then all around the country for three weeks, just so they can hand it to you in person. (They probably bought it at Whole Foods or something, but you get the idea.)

Or when someone who is already carrying five bags full of assorted clothes and books and other stuff, throws a box of mini brownies in there too, just so she doesn't have to show up empty-handed to a birthday party. (Which she totally could have done and it still would have cool just to have her there.)

Or when someone else pulls you aside to buy you a drink and then builds you up with some of the nicest compliments anyone has ever paid you. Then when she makes a scene, you can't help but laugh, because you wouldn't have it any other way.

Or when dozens of people you've know for just a few weeks, or just a few days, or someone you've only met twice in your whole life and you know has so much shit going on in her world that she has no business coming to a birthday party for some dude she barely knows, shows up and wishes you a Happy Birthday.

Or when (almost) everyone who you care about in this city ends up at a bar on a Saturday night (and those who didn't and still sent wishes, you know I don't hold it against you) and that one person who doesn't care about you but somehow wandered into your party for god knows what reason, knows that she's not welcome there, because this is a place for friends. (Yes, that one is a little petty and stupid, but so is life.)

Or when one amazing person bakes you a cake, and then carries it ten blocks and even pays a stupid fee to bring it into the restaurant, when she just as easily could have bought one there — or not even brought one all it and it still would have been fabulous, because all she had to do was show up and stand next you and it would have made you happiest guy in the room.

They say that no one in this city cares about anything but themselves, but I know that's not true. I saw it on Saturday night. No one had to buy me presents or tell me they loved me. (Although a few did, and I love them for it.)

All they had to do was be there, because it's was a nice thing to do. I thank them all.

Let's not forget that I pulled you aside and told you explicit, sexual things about DM & I! HAHAHAHHA. He laughed so hard when I told him what I told YOU. =)

This was truly a sweet post. I had fun on Saturday, even though I blacked out - ha. You're so best. I hope this is your best birthday year yet!!!!!

Believe me I TRIED to forget! Just because I work for a porn website doesn't mean I need that level of detail about my friends. Yikes!

"Let" me win? Hmmmm ... that's not the way I recall the events of that evening. But anytime you want a rematch, you know where to find me.

... if you've got the GUTS!

Alexis - what did you tell Dashiell? I wanna know too!

Dashiell - great party and glad the brownies were appreciated and consumed (if not at the actual party). Happy Happy!
