V For Vendetta

You know, the idea of Natalie Portman staring in yet another sci-fi/fantasy movie isn't that appealing to me. Nor is a movie that suggests that a terrorist can be a hero. (I admit that I don't really know anything about the plot or the message of the movie or the comic it's based on, but that does seem to be, at least on the surface, what it suggests. I willing to accept that I'm way off base. However, while it may make very fair and reasonable arguments about terror and oppression and the nature of violence, I don't necessarily want to see that at the multiplex. It does take place in the future, but we all live in the now.) Or one that uses the destruction of the British House of Parliament as its major dramatic set piece. (Or a movie studio that likes to give away major dramatic set pieces in their trailers.) Or, most especially, any movie that is put together by the same guys responsible for this steaming pile of garbage.

In other words, whatever it's merits, I'm not at all interested in V For Vendetta.

Then again ...

... uh ... where does the ticket line form?

Rating: A perfect 10, duhvs.

[Thanks be to Juan at Achtung, Baby! for the Wizard pic. I steal all my best posts from him! The other two via natalieportman.com.]

P.S. I decided to start another blog, separate from this one, which is where I'll dump all my rantings about politics and terrorism from now on. It's something I think about a lot, and want to write about more, but it doesn't really feel appropriate to clutter up this space with my angry, half-informed outbursts. I can't explain why, but it just felt somehow like a better way to operate. Not that it really matters to you the reader, what the hell I talk about here. It's pretty annoyingly random. Anyway, if you want to read that stuff go here. The lighthearted stuff stays where it is.
