Sin City

What a novel idea! A comic book movie that actually looks like a comic book? That actually understands and makes use of their visual style. Not some made up style by a guy who probably never read a comic book in his life, a la Mr. Hackmacher.

Of course, we don't need Tarantino anywhere near this thing. I think Robert Rodiruguez is a big boy now, and doesn't need to give his buddy a handjob everytime he wants to make a movie. At least, the great casting ideas far outweigh the bad ones. (I wonder if it's possible for the black and white to somehow make Josh Hartnett less expressive. It's a wonder he can even be captured on film.) All they are promising here is a fun, engaging thriller and that is exactly what it delivers.

Rating: Three and a half stars. If nothing else, you'll get plenty of well-framed shots of Jessica Alba's abs. That alone is worth $7.50, isn't it?
